International Experiences Associate

About the International Experiences Associate position:

The International Experiences Associate is charged with building relationships with Jewish Cleveland college students to connect them to international Jewish experiences, including Birthright Israel and other programs that deepen Jewish connections. The Associate will recruit college students to various program opportunities, and work with area college campus organizations (Hillel and Chabad) to engage in recruitment events, and pre/post program opportunities.

The Associate will be responsible for all efforts to promote, educate, and recruit for a portfolio of international programs and opportunities. The job will focus primarily on building and maintaining relationships with Cleveland Jewish young adults, ages 18-30, and help them navigate the roadmap of Jewish opportunities primarily in Israel and around the world. The position entails leading Birthright trips, and possibly other international programs. As part of the Overseas Department, the Associate will help to deepen engagement of young adults in Jewish life, create greater investment and exploration of their Jewish identity and connection to their global Jewish community, and act as a concierge and liaison to a variety of programs, activities, and events throughout the year.

This position is full-time and reports to the Director, International Experiences.

Essential Job Functions:
Outreach & Engagement

  1. Create and execute active strategies to recruit high quality participants for the international experience programs, primarily Birthright trips, Onward Israel internships, and Masa Israel Teaching Fellows programs, as well as other international opportunities.
  2. Participate in providing a strategic vision for increasing the number of young adults (18-30) who participate in immersive international experiences.
  3. Develop individual relationships with students to further their connection to Jewish Cleveland and their Jewish identity and engage them as alumni recruiters/ambassadors.
  4. Create pre-program orientations and post-program events and learning opportunities for participants.
  5. Manage social media outreach and work with JFC marketing department to advertise and promote programs.
  6. Serve as a concierge to Clevelanders to assist them in understanding and maximizing the International Experience options including Birthright, Onward Israel, Masa Israel, and other international opportunities.
  7. Build and maintain relationships with young adults through in-person meetings and interactions. Follow participants during and post program participation.
  8. Build connections with local Ohio resources and “community gatekeepers” (schools, synagogues, Rabbis, Jewish educators, Hillel and Chabad professionals, guidance counselors, Israeli emissaries, and Israel Fellows).
    1. Organize recruitment/reunion/connection events at campuses across Ohio.
    2. Organize Jewish learning and/or networking events to engage participants pre/post program in other Jewish connectivity.
  9. Write reports and updates on International Experience programs for marketing and funding purposes.
  10. Assist in building awareness and connection to Israel for young adults in Cleveland.
Collaborative Efforts:
  1. Work with Federation staff members who engage young adults in the organization’s work, including the Community Israel Emissary and the JFC Young Leadership team.
  2. Take responsibility for tasks and initiatives within the department as assigned by the Manager, International Experiences.
Additional Duties/Responsibilities:
  1. 10% of the position is allocated to an annual campaign assignment; this may include, but is not limited to, providing staff support to a group of solicitors, and participating in regular campaign meetings and events, as determined by the Campaign Director.
  2. 10% of the position requires international and domestic travel, including but not limited to staffing Birthright trip(s) in Israel, traveling to campuses in Ohio (and other states as needed), traveling to networking and program partnership meetings, and other travel as directed by Manager of International Experiences.
  3. All other relevant responsibilities and duties as directed by the Manager of International Experiences.

  8. An alum of Birthright Israel or other organized Israel program.
  9. Working knowledge of and/or experience in the Jewish community, and Jewish culture and traditions.
  10. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  11. Ability to create and deliver presentations and events to a variety of audiences.
  12. Demonstrated ability to work within a team-based structure in an individual contributor role.
  13. Proactive and solution-focused.
  14. Strategic and creative thinker.
  15. Results driven.
  16. Working knowledge of and/or experience with the Jewish community, culture, and tradition.
Education, Training and/or Experience:
  1. Essential computer skills including: Word, Excel, Power Point, and Salesforce.
  2. Bachelor’s Degree required.
  3. 1-2+ years of experience preferred.
