About the Managing Director, Business Systems position:

The Federation is embarking on a multi-year transformation of their current business systems. To help ensure the success of this transformation, the Federation has created this new position – Managing Director, Business Systems – to be a key partner to the CIO in executing the organizations technology strategy and guiding the planning, design, migration, vendor/partner management, and change enablement activities. The Managing Director will be expected to work collaboratively with process and business owners, vendors, partners, leadership, and information technology staff throughout the transformation to help ensure the new systems align with the organizational vision, meet business needs, and are implemented successfully.

The Managing Director, Business Systems, reports to the Chief Information Officer and is a senior-level position within the Federation and the IT department. The Managing Director will spearhead our robust and talented business systems teams tasked with the day-to-day administration, architecture, analysis, data governance, support, life-cycle management, development, and training of the enterprise systems that support finance, fundraising (development), digital marketing, and HR. The Managing Director will be accountable for the overall leadership, architecture, implementation, usage, and roadmap of a portfolio of enterprise systems, ensuring they effectively support the Federation’s expansive fundraising and business operations.

Essential Job Functions:
Transformation Leadership:
  • Partner with the CIO to provide leadership, coordination, change enablement, and delivery oversight of the business system implementations.
  • Collaborate with business partners in Finance, Development, Marketing, Donor Services, and HR to understand needs and drive solutions that meet business objectives.
  • Oversee aspects of design, build, implementation, and support of the new enterprise applications.
  • Partner with Program and Project Management resources to manage scope, schedule, and resources to ensure work is delivered in accordance with business needs.
  • Implement and ensure best practices in requirements definition, development, and QA activities.
  • Provide leadership on additional transformation activities related to adoption, data and business analysis, and infrastructure.
Technology Leadership:
  • Oversee the development, support, administrative, and maintenance activities of business systems.
  • Collaborate with business leads to ensure the systems roadmap aligns to priorities and objectives.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of business objectives and make recommendations regarding new enhancements, system integrations, and configurations.
  • Oversee the roadmap and release schedules for all business applications and ensure a strong change management process.
  • Lead master data management and governance initiatives and ensure ongoing data quality controls and processes.
  • Manages partner/vendor relationships to ensure quality service delivery including agreement renewals and procurement.
  • Lead and initiate technology change throughout the organization; evangelize the use of technology and spearhead education and training opportunities for staff.
Department Leadership:
  • Lead and manage the technical and functional teams that support the business systems.
  • Assist in recruiting, mentoring, and maximizing the growth potential of a high-performing IT team, including goalsetting, performance management, and continuous skills development.
  • Assist with establishing and implementing policies and procedures that achieve the directives and strategies of the CIO, CEO, and Board of Trustees.
  • Function as a strong contributor to the IT and Federation management team, acting as a proxy for the CIO in departmental or technology decisions.
  • Develop strong working relationships with the members of a lay leader committee and external advisors.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to meet the goals and objectives of the IT department and the Federation
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in information systems or related field of study. MBA or advanced degree preferred.
  • 15+ years of related experience.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Experience managing business systems transformations and/or implementations of enterprise systems (specifically Finance ERP, CRM, Marketing Automation, and HRIS). Experience in non-profit organization is a plus.
  • Proven experience successfully leading, growing, and empowering functional technology teams.
  • Experience in project management and execution, including managing budgets, vendors, and timelines and overseeing complex project plans.
  • Able to lead discussions, articulate problems, brainstorm solutions, and drive change in how people think and approach work.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with proven ability to translate business requirements into solutions.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to influence a diverse group of stakeholders and drive change at an organizational level.
  • Proven experience leading, mentoring, and growing large teams.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize and engage in a variety of tasks simultaneously while consistently meeting short deadline situations.
  • High attention to detail, follow-up, self-motivated, proactive, and solution minded.
  • Experience with Oracle NetSuite, Salesforce, or Microsoft Dynamics365, a plus.
  • Experience with Microsoft cloud solutions, Data Warehousing, Business Process Automation, AI, a plus.
