An Election Day Message
We are a diverse Jewish community. Our families vary in composition and religious practice. Our community is enriched by the different backgrounds, experiences, and traditions contained within it. We are proof that the whole is, indeed, greater than the sum of its parts.
The blessing of this diversity does not come without challenges, especially when the conversation turns to politics. By law, as a non-profit, the Federation does not and will never get involved in electoral politics. We are a non-partisan organization. At the same time, we are not blind to the fact that this year’s presidential campaign season, combined with the intense anxiety surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, has strained relationships throughout our community.
So, after the election is finished, we will work with compassion to be unified – not uniform – in our work to support each other and those who depend on us. Because, regardless of whether or not your candidate wins, there will still be people to feed, vulnerable people to care for, individuals hurting that need to be lifted up, and children to educate and nurture. And there will be relationships that need repair.
We write this on the eve of the election, not knowing the outcome. We write this knowing how deeply our Jewish community cares about our country and how deeply we care about our community. And we are committed to working with you as we have always done. Because, despite all our differences, we share the same hopes and dreams for our families and our people.
