We’re so grateful to JVN’s incredible leadership team! This committee, chaired by Marty Shankle, meets bimonthly to spearhead new and existing volunteer opportunities in the Cleveland Jewish and general communities. Get to know committee member Leslie Brandon.

Why is volunteering important to you?

I've always enjoyed the personal nature of volunteering  it's a great way to connect with the community and see the Federation's mission at ground level. Tzedakah has always been a central value in our family, and volunteering is a rewarding way to honor that, especially when the whole family gets involved.

What has been your favorite JVN experience?

It's become a tradition in our house to participate in the fall cemetery clean up to kick off the holiday season. It's an opportunity to honor our ancestors, connect with the past, and reflect on the year. Plus, it's an outdoor activity at a beautiful time of year, and good for all ages.

What is a goal you have as a committee member of JVN?

My goal is to cultivate opportunities that will bring the community together, as well as highlight the incredible work our partner organizations do every day. It’s also been rewarding to invite friends and family that haven't volunteered before and see them embrace the opportunities and continue to be involved.

What is your favorite Shabbat tradition?

We just had a beautiful Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur  my favorite part of these holidays is being with family, telling stories of holidays past, and embracing the peace and hopefulness of the New Year together.
