Since Israel’s establishment 70 years ago, Israel and the diaspora haven’t always seen eye to eye on some topics. As the Jewish Federation of North America prepares for its general assembly Oct. 22-24 in Tel Aviv, it’s prepared to dive deeper into what divides and ultimately connects American Jews and Israel.

Orange resident Yael Amitz-Lev Sperber is familiar with the type of positive impact the Jewish Federation of Cleveland can have on people’s lives. After all, she benefited from the organization when she relocated to the Cleveland area from Israel three years ago.

Molly Kazan has always treasured her Jewishness. Born in Cincinnati, Molly moved to Cleveland during middle school and attended Agnon (now Mandel JDS), a Federation beneficiary agency. That time in her life is something she’ll never forget. “My time in Cleveland was very formative,” Molly said. “Agnon instilled in me such a passion and such a drive to understand my Jewish identity and serve within the Jewish community and really helped me be excited about who I am.”

As the Jewish Federation of Cleveland’s Super Sunday giveathon nears, veteran volunteer Rhoda Seifert prepares to reprise her role soliciting donations by reviewing the many causes to which Federation contributes and practicing her pitch to potential donors.
