Togetherness, Laughter & Food

An evening of togetherness, laughter…and food!

“When people get together and cook, there is magic that results!”

When visitors from Cleveland’s sister city of Beit Shean, Israel come to town, it’s always a celebration.

And a party atmosphere is exactly what happened when three Beit Shean Mevashlot (chefs) visited the Slovenian National Home in Cleveland’s St. Clair neighborhood. The St. Clair Superior Community Development Corp. and the Jewish Federation of Cleveland are beginning a new partnership on knowledge and community development and hosted a cooking circle with food and craft.

“The partnership between St. Clair and the Federation is really this incredible story of seeing what we do as a community and what the Federation supports in Israel and how we can connect those dots,” said Michael Fleming, director of the Development Corp.

The night was just one example of how these two communities are learning from one another through entrepreneurship, business strategy, youth engagement, and more as part of the collaboration between the Development Corp., the Federation, and Bridge to the Future, a community organization in Beit Shean, Israel supported by the Federation.

The mevashlot worked side by side in the kitchen with three chefs from the St. Clair community to prepare and create signature dishes representing their own heritages.

“Tonight has been a success with food and friendship,” added Etty, one of the mevashlot.

Everyone left the event with a greater appreciation and perspective on both communities…and a full belly.
