Oct. 7, 2024 marks one year since Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israel, killing more than 1,200 people, kidnapping more than 250 others and drastically changing the Jewish world.

As the High Holy Days arrive, safety is a top priority with the one-year anniversary of the Oct. 7, 2023, surprise attack by Hamas in Israel falling during the holidays and antisemitism on the rise. Jewish organizations and local law enforcement are planning to insure the community is safe as they celebrate the Jewish new year and other holidays.

Teenagers from Kibbutz Kissufim in Israel were able to take a break this summer and spend four weeks at Camp Wise, the Home of Happiness! The teens were able to be there thanks to the support of our community through the Israel Emergency Fund and the Campaign for Jewish Needs.

For decades, the Cleveland Jewish community has offered steadfast support for The Jewish Agency for Israel, Amira Ahronoviz, CEO and director general of the agency, told the Cleveland Jewish News on Sept. 11 at the Jewish Federation of Cleveland’s Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Building in Beachwood.

This summer, Camp Wise campers and staff members attended a two-week session at Camp Szarvas, a Federation-supported program in Hungary. The teens had an opportunity to interact with Jewish peers from around the world. Watch this video to learn about their experience.

A community volunteer recently shared a story of her first phone call at a Super Sunday event – a call that forever changed the way she looked at giving.

The Jewish Federation of Cleveland created an ad campaign during the Cleveland Guardians season, the recently-completed Cleveland Cavaliers playoff season and on billboards in the Greater Cleveland area to help combat hate and spread awareness for the hostages taken during the Oct. 7, 2023, surprise attack on Israel by Hamas, that are still in captivity.

More than 1,200 people joined the Jewish Federation of Cleveland in raising $2,610,712 for its annual Campaign for Jewish Needs on Sept. 8 during its Super Sunday Kickoff event.
