“Everything is special when you treat it in the eyes of art.”

Arie Azene, an Israeli painter whose career began as a youth in the 1940s, will embark on his first trip to the Cleveland-area on Feb. 26 to show and discuss two recent collections of work in a show at the Jewish Federation of Cleveland that serves to memorialize his late partner, Israeli journalist Tatiana Hoffman.

Calling all Cleveland area middle and high school wordsmiths and artists: you are invited to enter the 2017 annual Yom Hashoah V’Hagvurah (Cleveland’s commemoration of the Holocaust and heroism) Contest. Essays and works of art are sought that portray this year’s theme, “Stand Up, Speak Out: Stopping Persecution Then and Now.”

The Jewish Federation of Cleveland announces the opening of “Illuminations: The Art of Samuel Bak,” a collection of visual art exploring the myriad interpretations of Israel identity. The exhibition is located in the Roe Green Gallery at the Jewish Federation of Cleveland’s Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Building (25701 Science Park Drive in Cleveland).

CLEVELAND – Established, emerging and amateur photographers are invited to submit photos that capture the people and places of Beit Shean, Cleveland’s sister city in Israel. Winning submissions will be featured in an upcoming exhibit hosted by the Jewish Federation of Cleveland and the Mandel Jewish Community Center. The exhibit, “Hidden Gems” is part of a series of events celebrating the 20th anniversary of Cleveland and Beit Shean’s partnership.
