The Jewish Federation of Cleveland announced today that Heather Schlang is the 2022 recipient of the Irene Zehman Volunteer Award. Each year, the Federation recognizes a Jewish woman or group of women who demonstrate the highest ideals and practices of volunteer service on behalf of the Jewish and/or general community. Schlang, a community volunteer and Chair of Share What You Wear (SWYW), a project of the National Council of Jewish Women/Cleveland (NCJW/CLE), will be honored at the Federation’s Women IN Philanthropy MaIN Event on December 1.

Former Board Chair of Jewish Federations of North America Michael Siegal is one of five notable leaders who will be awarded the prestigious Israeli Presidential Medal of Honor, according to an announcement issued by the Office of President Isaac Herzog. The prize, which is the highest civil medal awarded by the President of Israel, will be presented in recognition of Siegal’s extraordinary commitment to the Jewish nation and to advancing ties between Israel and North American Jewry.

The Jewish Federation of Cleveland announced that Mitchell Schneider is the 2022 recipient of the Gries Family Award in recognition of his lasting impact in Cleveland’s Jewish and general communities. For more than 25 years, the Gries Family Award has honored individuals who have demonstrated extensive top leadership in Federation and other local Jewish organization activities, as well as significant leadership in Greater Cleveland’s general community. Schneider, president of First Interstate Properties, Ltd., was presented the award at the Jewish Federation of Cleveland Board of Trustees meeting on September 28.

The Jewish Federation of Cleveland announced that Sarah Zimmerman has been awarded the 2021 Bennett and Donna Yanowitz Leadership Award, which recognizes and honors an outstanding young individual who has demonstrated commitment, involvement, and leadership within Cleveland’s Jewish community. She received the award at the Federation’s Board of Trustees meeting on April 27.

Each year, the Federation recognizes an unsung Jewish woman or group of women who demonstrate the highest ideals and practices of volunteer service on behalf of the Jewish and/or general community. Jacobs, who is the co-founder and executive director of Israel Medical Fund, a nonprofit supporting medical initiatives in Israel, will be honored at the Federation’s Gathering for Good event on December 1.
