Jewish Cleveland spent the day at summer camp on June 24!

In Israel, like in the United States, Independence Day is often celebrated with family and friends around the grill. But it’s also a time for tension in a new play from Israel that received its North American debut at Dobama Theatre last night.

Each year, Ohioans are sent to jail for months, sometimes years, before their case is resolved. These individuals frequently live in squalid living conditions and under a constant threat of violence – while presumed innocent – simply because they cannot afford to pay a bail bondsman.

The Jewish Federations of North America’s national young leadership cabinet took its annual study mission April 23-29 in Spain and Morocco – a trip of which the Cleveland area was well represented.

Moshe Halbertal, an Israeli philosopher, professor and co-author of the Israeli Army Code of Ethics, told a local audience that he believes the Israel Defense Forces has fought a war on terror without brutalizing its forces, however, there are challenges and missteps regarding Israeli politicians’ messaging and dealing with the situation at the Gaza border.
